I am persuaded sooner or later they will break up the euro, that is, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece.

If you read The Telegraph's article here you will note a paragraph that says Italian, Spanish and French politicians have been criticizing the ECB in public whereas it is taken as sacrosanct in Germany. This is key to understand why democratic institutions work in Protestant countries but not in Catholic countries. In the former people refrain from criticizing their institutions in public whereas in the latter they do it everyday, actually politicians set the example. As I tried to argue in a previous post what kills democracy in Catholic countries is freedom of expression, or its abuses.

The Germans who benefited the least from the euro - as they had a strong currency of their own, the mark - keep their mouths shut. People like the Italians and the Spanish, who benefited the most, are talking against it.
