There is an important lesson to be drawn from Gilberto Freyre's work and that is the following: if you are looking to the US and more generally to the anglo-saxonic countries and authors for that genuine Western liberal tradition which is respectful of human rights, considers all men to be equal and grants all men an immense amount of personal freedom bordering on anarchy, you are looking into the wrong place.
