"I live and work in Spain since 2000 in the service sector. In the nine years I have been here I have had two Spanish clients, got payed half of what I usually make and that about six month too late - on top of that I was treated like an unprofessional idiot and my opinion wasn't consulted because they knew everything better anyway. Their jobs got done but mediocre to say the least, I don't think they really care. Most of my (foreign) clients had bad experiences with local companies offering the same services I do and are happy to come back to work with me - BRILLIANT ! In my humble opinion (for which I get into trouble with my Spanish wife) a big reason for this Non Service Attitude is: The majority of the Spanish are totally spoiled by their parents (mostly the males and by their mothers and grandmothers) most professional contacts I have with Spanish woman are positive - they get doctrined that they (individual and then national) are the absolute best in the world and the rest is just well the rest - so with this attitude they have no real initiative to better themselves - just look at the majority (not all of course) of the comments here you will find extreme pride and prejudicem from the Spanish side - and if they are in a bad state they usually look for someone/thing worse to excuse this - they are just in their own way really. Still it is a great country to live in, the society values of the people are great in comparison with some more developed countries and I hope the money wave didn't spoil thing too much because changes are evident. In regards to the crisis > I don't see a crisis they are just normalizing and going from a faked 8th strongest economy (stupid money injections from the EU into a corrupt and antiquated administrative system) to where they should be, it will cost some pride and tears to go with the loss but hey in the end everyone will be happier ......... once the silly expectations are gone life will return to normal -- hopefully. Neither Zapatero nor the PP can turn this around - it was Aznar who got the money from the EU by being a persistent beggar in Brussels and those days are over, so their is no one to blame".
