Rui a. has often stressed in this blog the need for some type of conservative party in Portugal. I believe he has in mind a conservative party in the anglo-saxonic tradition, such as the Conservative Party of England or the Republican Party in the USA.
I believe such party is impossible in Portugal and in any Catholic country.
A conservative party can only flourish in a country - like the USA and the UK - where people like their traditions and their fellow-citizens and are proud of them. It can never emerge in a country, like Portugal, where people are constantly blaming their traditions and revolting against them and where each citizen looks at himself as the only decent person in the country, all others being bad.
Indeed, who would want to conserve such a country?
