I was recently dining in a restaurant in S. Paulo when the chief waiter approached me and asked if I was liking the food. I answered affirmatively and took the opportunity to tell him a lot of good things about Brazil.
He listened to me attentively. When I finished my long list of features I considered great about Brazil and the Brazilian people, he said.
"Sim, é um país muito bom. Os políticos é que são muito corruptos".
"Shit!", I said to myself. "These guys are even worse than their former colonizers. The first thing they do before a foreigner is to badmouth their own people - and the bad guys are always the other guys".
