circum-navegação em 45 dias, 13 h, 42 m e 53 segundos

Brian Thompson now stands in the proud tradition of British sailors who have ruled the waves, from Drake to Sir Francis Chichester and Dame Ellen MacArthur.
The 49-year-old sailor from Southampton has become the first British sailor in almost two decades to take the Jules Verne Trophy after his 130ft trimaran destroyed to round-the-world speed records with the fastest circumnavigation in history.
But in a reflection of the global nature of modern sailing Mr Thompson’s triumph involved sailing on a French yacht and communicating with the largely Gallic crew using what he describes as “schoolboy French”.
Mr Thompson was the only Briton on board the Banque Populaire V, which completed the sprint in 45 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes and 53 seconds.
