Leoni opens plant in Serbian town

PROKUPLJE -- Germany-based Leoni AG wire and cable manufacturer today opened its plant in Prokuplje, southern Serbia. The factory is set to employ 400 workers in the first phase, it was announced. They earn monthly wages of EUR 160.
The ceremony today was attended by President Boris Tadić, Economy Minister Mlađan Dinkić and member of Leoni Management Board Uwe Lamann. According to a statement, the factory will produce 150 sets of cables for car industry in the first phase. The company was founded in 1917, and employs more than 150,000 workers worldwide, with annual sales reaching some EUR 3bn.
